How to measure for a template
Image 1:
Put your existing saddle on your pony
in the normal position as if you were going to girth up
(minus any saddle cloths) Leave the saddle loose, lift up
the flap and make a mental note of where the saddle tree
point is sitting on the pony's wither (marked in green for
this example)

Image 2:
Remove the saddle and where the tree
point was sitting, place a flexible wire over the pony's
wither (i.e. coat hanger or a flexy curve 'Dressmakers tape')
Once you have the withers shape remove the flexy curve and
draw around the inside curve onto a piece of A3 paper if
possible (see image 3)

Image 2a
This now gives up the shape of the pony's wither which we
now transfer to paper

Image 3:
Draw a line using the shape from your
pony's wither.
Using the same technique, complete the whole process again,
however, on the second attempt walk you pony around before
taking the second template -see image 4

Image 4:
Again draw the shape of the withers
using the second template keeping the line just over the
first one (this allows us a tolerance in the two measurements)

Once your template is complete, please
forward this along with any other instructions in order
that we can start right away making your custom built saddle
The above instructions have been designed not to over complicate
the process; if you follow these basic instructions this
will be adequate in order for us to make a custom fit tree;
if you are unsure, please call or email for further advice
